Wings & Roots
Wisdom from a Forgotten Garden
by Capella Cao
Illustrated by
Sebastián Cudicio

About the Book

In a forgotten garden that speaks in nature’s own language, two journeys begin to unfold.

High in the eaves, a young swallow timidly learns to fly. Below her, a tired human digs in the earth, searching for a rare herb to cure his pain.

As the seasons turn, from the first spring thunder that stirs the roots to the winter snow that promises harvest, they learn the garden’s truth: that the frost sweetens fruit, that mud holds lotus, that to bend is to be brave, and that grief is a seed waiting for its season.

Told in meditative vignettes through the voices of the garden’s inhabitants — a wise clay pot, a caring locust tree, a sharp-tongued gecko, and the Swallow — Wings & Roots brings 100 nature-inspired Chinese proverbs to life.

Richly illustrated throughout, this timeless wisdom tale is a quiet companion for anyone on the journey of healing, letting go, finding their place in this world, and beginning again.
