Wings & Roots
Wisdom from a Forgotten Garden

About the Book
Wings & Roots is a meditative literary tale that weaves narrative vignettes with 100 nature-inspired Chinese proverbs, accompanied by ink-style illustrations throughout.
Set in a forgotten garden that speaks in nature’s own language, two journeys unfold: a young swallow learning to fly while waiting for parents who will never return; a nameless, silent human, observed through the garden's eye, searching for a rare herb said to heal a broken heart. As the seasons turn, the voices of the garden’s inhabitants—a wise clay pot, a caring locust tree, and a sharp-tongued gecko—accompany them through loss, resilience, and the quiet wisdom of growth.
Drawing on 100 Chinese nature proverbs, Wings & Roots is a reflective tale for readers on the journey of healing, letting go, and beginning again.

In addition to the main narrative, the book includes several back matter sections:
-
The Garden’s Clock: An introduction to the 24 solar terms, the seasonal rhythm farmers follow to tend the earth.
-
Garden Notes: Cultural and scientific insights of selected proverbs.
-
Original Voices: A bilingual appendix of the original Chinese proverbs alongside their English translations.
